In this two-hour, face-to-face workshop, Mentors are provided with the skills necessary to work with mentoring skills through strategies that are research-based and have been proven to be effective for adult learners. In this workshop, Mentors will:

Mentors will discuss listening and practice refining skills in this particular area. Mentors will analyze what makes a good listener and what it looks like to not listen "well."
Mentors will examine the skill of paraphrasing and talk with one another about the message paraphrasing sends out to those in a conversation. Mentors will actively use the art of paraphrasing with one another.
The three specific types of paraphrasing covered are 1) Acknowledge and Clarify, 2) Summarize and Organize, and 3) Shift Conceptual Focus.
Mentors will evaluate themselves as a listener. Pairs will actively speak to one another and examine how well they are focused and present in the conversation.
Mentors will partake in effective coaching conversations. They will partake in a triad conversation as a participant in three different roles allowing them three different perspectives: a coach, a coachee, and as an observer.

You attend an in-person PCMS Part 2 training at your county office/local meeting area. Visit your NCSOE Profile Page and Choose Classes or the NCSOE website under the Participants tab, then Browse Class List to sign up. Classes provided based on interest; check with your county Program Coordinator if you do not see available classes for options.
